Early on Saturday, a boat on a river in northwest equateur Province hit a rock and capcized, provincial spoke woman , Ebale Engumba  said, Sunday. She said more than 70 people were believed dead among 100 estimated passengers. She also said that officials were investigating why the boat had been travelling through the darkness without a light.
In a separated incident in Kasai Occidental Province, 200 people were feared dead after a boat loaded with passengers and fuel drums caught fire and capcized in southern Congo, a survivor said Sunday. Another survivor confirmed the account and said local fishermen refused to help drowning passengers who jumped off the crowded boat.
Fabrice Muamba, who said he was on the boat when it caught fire Saturday night on Kasai River , aslso said he thought only 15 of the more than 200 people he thought were aboard were able to swim to safety. He said passengers began to jump overboard when the engine caught fire as it passed the remote village of Mbendayi, some 45 miles (70 kilometers) from the town of Tshikapa, which is north of Congo’s border with Angola. Congo is a vast country of jungles and huge rivers in Central Africa with little more than 300 miles (480 kilometers) of paved roads. Many people prefer to take boats even if they do not know how to swim.

       You must have been aware of the growing need to conserve our forests. One of the way to ensure that fewer trees are cut down is by recycling waste paper. This is the reason why our Conservation Club has embarked on our Old Newspaper Collection Campaign.
       Perhaps you would be interested in knowing what will happen to your old newspapers after they arrive at the paper recycling center.
       Firstly, the old newspapers are soaked in water and then put into the hydropulper. This machine, which has rotating blades, cuts the paper finely into a pulp.
       Next the pulp is fed into the washer. Here, all dirt is washed off. Staples and clips are removed. The pulp is then fed into chemical tank where bleach is added to it. This whitens the pulp.
       After being bleached, the pup is passed through rollers. All excess water is now squeezed out of the pulp. This makes the drying process faster. The drying is done in a dryer. The pulp comes out of the dryer as large sheets of paper, which are rolled on spools.
       This recycled paper is used for many things, for example, to make cardboard boxes, egg cartons, toilet rolls, poster paper, and even gift wrapping paper. When you consider that you have no further use for youe old newspapers, you will be glad to contribute them to our campaign

Henry Hudson (1565-1611) was an English explorer and navigator who explored parts of the Arctic Ocean and northeastern North America. Employed by Holland, he made trips to find a waterway from Europe to India.
In 1609, on a trip in a ship called the Half Moon Hudson found what is now called the Hudson River. He also discovered Manhattan Island . The Dutch then built a settlement there and called it New Armsterdam. A governor was appointed, a one-legged Dutchman, called Peter Stuyvesant. This was too much provocation for the English settlers. A fleet sent by James, Duke of York , sailed from England and anchored off New Armsterdam. The town gave in without firing a shot although the governor did all he could to make his men fight. Later, its name was changed from ”New Armsterdam” to ”New York” to honor the royal duke who had financed the invasion.
Hudson sailed into New York’s harbor on September 3, 1609 and noted what an excellent harbor it was. He sailed up the river about 150 miles (240 km) and noted the abundance of rich land, but realized that this was not a waterway to India.
Hudson died in 1611 after his crew mutinied and left Hudson, his son and seven crew members adrift in a small, open boat in Hudson Bay.
